Radiation measurements made during the spring 2008 cruise to the Fram Strait. Transmission of light through ice, measured by divers on day 4 of fifth floe. At fourth site, approx. 20 m from ice edge, 0.42 m snow on 1.04 m ice. Each measurement type (incident, reflected, etc) was made with a different TriOS Ramses spectroradiometer. These are known to have calibration issues at the longest and shortest wavelengths for which data are reported; we recommend using only data from about 350 to 920 nm. No significant quality control has been done to these data.

Abstract:
Radiation measurements made during the spring 2008 cruise to the Fram Strait. Albedo of snow-covered ice on day 5 of fifth floe. About 0.4 m snow on about 1.5 m ice. Measurement made primarily for comparison with another instrument.

The jump in the data occurs after the rack holding the two sensors was rotated 90 degrees to test sensitivity to positioning. A few thin cirrus clouds, clear in front of sun, 0.42 m snow on about 1.5 m ice. Albedo was measured primarily for comparison with another instrument. Each measurement type (incident, reflected, etc) was made with a different TriOS Ramses spectroradiometer. Abstract:
Radiation measurements made during the spring 2008 cruise to the Fram Strait. Transmission of light through ice, measured with under-ice sensor in a rack hanging through a 15-cm borehole on day 4 of fifth floe. Measurements were made with the sensor at three different depths: 2.7, 2.05, and 1.5 m below the water surface. The transition times are clear from the data. 0.35 m snow on 1.16 m ice. Each measurement type (incident, reflected, etc) was made with a different TriOS Ramses spectroradiometer. These are known to have calibration issues at the longest and shortest wavelengths for which data are reported; we recommend using only data from about 350 to 920 nm.
